THE WORLD BANK AND THE AFRICAN INSURANCE ORGANISATION SHARPEN THE SKILLS OF INSURANCE PROFESSIONALS ON ACTUARIAL TECHNIQUES
The CICA-RE building in Lome, Togo was the venue of the week-long pre selection training which brought together 40 participants from nine French-speaking countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, Mali, Senegal and Togo).
The 40 participants received training on basic actuarial principles and concepts, the evaluation of risks, the role of the actuary in the insurance business and the calculation of money value considering time etc.
Resource persons at the training were Mr. Mathew Durfour, a Mathematics Lecturer in the University of Quebec, Montreal, Canada and Mr. Rodolfo Wehrhahn, Senior Insurance Specialist from the World Bank.
The results of the assessment conducted at the end of the course will determine those who qualify for the second phase of the training.
The course participants appreciated the training noting that so was learnt within one week. They all expressed the wish to be part of the second phase of the exercise.
During a dinner offered by CICA-Re, its Managing Director, Mr. Jean- Baptiste Kouame, said his company was pleased to have provided the venue for such an important training program for the African insurance industry.
